In the Woods

...is a poem by Menangtei K. Thangkhiew, a passionate writer and devoted reader whose words capture the gentle pulse of life. Through his poetry and prose, he evokes love, nostalgia, and the quiet beauty of nature, weaving a sense of hope and peace that lingers with the reader.

Take me where the wild things grow—

in sun and rain, far from the cities

and their dictionaries

that try to define me.

Let my shadow be shade for the worms.

My every breath suckled by the leaves.

And when I lay,

let my flesh be a feast

for carrion and crows,

rejoicing in the taste

of a man who lived free.
